Backyard Farming Log

April–May 2019

The rocks in this photo were dug out from the field. No wonder vegetables didn’t grow well — this used to be a mountainside.

There’s bedrock underneath, so drainage is poor. The puddle at the lower left is rainwater from the previous night.

Finally — a demolition hammer! My wife was happily smashing rocks (lol). It’s still hard work, but removing rocks really expands our usable field.

Perfect for rocky fields. Much more powerful than expected — even hard rocks gradually break apart. It’s heavy work, but the efficiency feels several times higher. We can literally see our field expanding.
