The garlic sprouts have finally appeared, but I still can’t tell them apart from the stones. Clearly, the soil still needs plenty of improvement. The whitish pieces on the surface are likely clay stones—or maybe just hardened soil. I’ll keep turning the soil over and over to let it weather, adding more organic matter each time.

White shoots are popping up here and there.

Harvested the spring-planted sweet potatoes too. Quality? Let’s be polite and say “characterful.” The soil’s begging for a makeover.
