Back to the rock-breaking we couldn’t finish last year. It’s the classic loop: smash with a chipping hammer → scoop out stones → repeat.

Once the stones are out, we mix in compost with soil to rebuild the bed from the bottom up.

Looking good! That said, small stones keep photobombing the surface. If we remove one pebble a day, the bed will be stone-free in, oh, a century. Honestly, without the chipping hammer this would still be “in progress” forever.

First thing we planted wasn’t a vegetable but a cassis seedling. Priorities! With any luck, it’ll be showing off glossy berries by the rainy season.
